Find your wild side and join us for a wildly fun weekend in the untamed heart of Colorado - Centerra! 

Scavenger Hunt

Date: Friday, September 23, 2022 - Sunday, September 25, 2022
Location: Centerra-Wide

Get out and about in Centerra for a community-wide scavenger hunt. Intended for teams and families, this fun night of discovery is done at your leisure and features challenges such as CAPTURE IT, a series of tasks you will perform with your team and photograph it for points; AMAZING RACE, a series of clues that will take you to different landmarks to acquire points; and even some RIDDLES AND TRIVIA, tasks that will force you to research or answer questions for points- you can do this while traveling in the car. 

While the hunt can be done at your own pace between Friday morning and Sunday evening, those fierce enough to complete the challenges by Friday evening will gain access to the Friday Finish Line.  

Wild Walks
Date: September 24, 2022
Time: 9am - 12pm 
Location: 2698 Bluestem Willow Drive

High Plains Environmental Center (HPEC) located at 2698 Bluestem Willow Drive features an urban environmental park comprised of 76 acres of land and 3 miles of trails that surround two lakes covering an additional 200 acres.  

Take advantage during their Wild Nature Walks to meet this amazing organization largely responsible for Centerra’s Certified Wild accreditation. During the Walks, HPEC director, Jim Tolstrup will lead educational garden tours highlighting the wildlife habitat enhancement, and water-saving benefits of gardening with native plants.

Visit Tommi the Red-Eared Slider Turtle, and from 9am-12pm resident Turtle-ologist, Gary R. Grenzke, will lead a special program featuring Tommi. Gary will be teaching kids of all ages about the lifecycle of turtles and other reptiles. Each participant will receive their own “turtle-ology’ certificate.

Wander the demonstration gardens that showcase over 80 native plants species, habitat restoration, and water conservation.  The HPEC nursery and greenhouses produce native plants which are available to the public through their ongoing plant sales, special savings will apply over the weekend only! Learn about the restoration work that has been accomplished, the wildlife that lives here, and HPEC’s role of ongoing stewardship to preserve our wildlife habitat. What might you see? Native wildflowers, shrubs and grasses, butterflies, native bees, dragonflies and damselflies, songbirds, raptors, waterfowl and the occasional jumping fish!

Wild Zone

Date: September 24, 2022
Time: 2pm - 5pm 
Location: The Promenade Shops at Centerra, Main Plaza (Located next to Build-A-Bear Workshop)

Head to The Promenade Shops at Centerra's Main Plaza, located next to Build-A-Bear Workshop and enjoy FREE “wild” engagements featuring face painting, caricature portraits and crafts. 

There will also be hands-on educational and cultural exhibits from local experts, including High Plains Environmental Center, Butterfly Pavilion, People and Pollinators Action Network and Northern Colorado Wildlife Center. Be sure to complete the Certified Wild Badge Quest while you are there!
